Parents in Nakuru county have been called upon to be cautious with
the daily whereabouts of their children and what they eat during the
long holidays especially after it emerged that some unidentified
individuals are manufacturing sweets and chewing gums intoxicated with
narcotic which is harmful to human.
Addressing media in his office
on Wednesday, Nakuru Lions school Head teacher Mr.Fanuel Imbusi noted
that the trend of individuals manufacturing sweets that are intoxicated
is real saying his secretary became a victim just before schools closed.
Mr.Imbusi
added that after witnessing the incident he alerted the Public Health
officers who took the sample to Nakuru Level 5 hospital for a check up
to determine the content of the sweets.
“I just want to pass a
word of caution to Parents during this long holiday especially after it
emerged that we have some sweets that are intoxicated and when children
consume, they loose memory. My secretary was a victim but we have
reported the matter to the health expert” said Imbusi.
The
administrator also advised Parents to try possible and ensure their
children avoid sweets adding that apart from some being intoxicated,
they generally increase the sugar levels and this can be avoided.
Her said the long holidays is just a test on the parenting technique and therefore parents should be more careful.
“With
these long holidays we have parties and merry making and we therefore
as parents must work on how to ensure our children are not affected” he
said.
His sentiments come at a time when children are at home for
the longest holidays ever as poer the new Education Ministry rules set
by the CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
