Opposition leader Raila Odinga has promised to back Deputy President
William Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022 if the Kalenjin community
rallies behind him in 2017.
The CORD leader also disclosed that he was the official CORD flag bearer in the upcoming general election, The Star reports.
In
2007, Ruto supported Raila in a disputed election that flared into
ethnic animosity and the subsequent murder and displacement of thousands
of Kenyans.
Ruto was implicated in the violence, in a case that dragged for over 6 years at the ICC.
He accused Raila of framing him at the ICC, and would hence engage him in endless war of words.
Ruto
also broke away from ODM and joined President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013,
where they agreed to serve two terms each in succession.
However, last week a Jubilee Governor said that Mt Kenya region will not automatically support Ruto for Presidency in 2022.
Since
then, Ruto has been cautioned against depending on the MoU that
automatically granted him the Kikuyu support after Uhuru Kenyatta's
tenure is over.
